CPS System Flowchart

Picture32Review the picture above to review the life of a report.

Refer to the flowchart in the Participant Handouts.

  • A call is received at the SCR.
  • The report is registered or not registered.
  • If it is not registered, there may be a possible Law Enforcement Referral (LER).
  • The registered report is transmitted to the local CPS agency.
  • The report is investigated and a safety assessment is performed by the local CPS.
  • Ongoing assessment of the child occurs.
  • The report is either “indicated” or “unfounded.” If the report is unfounded, then it is sealed. Legally sealed unfounded reports are expunged ten years after the receipt of the report.
  • If it is indicated, a determination is made about whether continued services are needed.
  • In some cases, unfounded cases may be referred for community services.
  • If services are needed, a service plan is developed and there is continued monitoring of the needed services being provided.
  • If services are no longer needed, the case is closed.
