Refer to the flowchart in the Participant Handouts.
- A call is received at the SCR.
- The report is registered or not registered.
- If it is not registered, there may be a possible Law Enforcement Referral (LER).
- The registered report is transmitted to the local CPS agency.
- The report is investigated and a safety assessment is performed by the local CPS.
- Ongoing assessment of the child occurs.
- The report is either “indicated” or “unfounded.” If the report is unfounded, then it is sealed. Legally sealed unfounded reports are expunged ten years after the receipt of the report.
- If it is indicated, a determination is made about whether continued services are needed.
- In some cases, unfounded cases may be referred for community services.
- If services are needed, a service plan is developed and there is continued monitoring of the needed services being provided.
- If services are no longer needed, the case is closed.
